Curriculum Outline
Writing
Daily writing improves hand-eye coordination, penmanship in both cursive and print, and comprehension of learning material. Our writing program is aimed at thought exploration, and expansion of understanding and application in
- grammar,
- comprehension and response, and
- creative and formal writing.
Reading
Reading = Learning for Life.
At CSPS we focus on:
- phonics (matching letters to sounds)
- one-to-one reading support, including the use of leveled reading books,
- targeted instruction and support to address individual areas of weakness,
- daily independent reading to explore topics of interest, and
- guided novel studies involving discussions of classical stories.
Math
The practice of foundational math is designed to help students meet and exceed grade-level expectations.
The goal is to build a strong foundation in fundamental concepts so students are prepared for higher-level math.
We offer an academic concentration of mathematical basics that supports student confidence in accuracy and provides a solid foundation for future learning.
Humanities
Religion, History, Science, Art and Geography are areas of study that bring the world to our students.
Religion
- A wide-range view of both the Old and New Testament, focusing on key passages for memorization and
- the exploration of several instructional stories of interest.
History
Using 2 teacher-made textbooks
A view of history through the study and comparison of ancient and modern architecture, technology and legends. We ask questions about, and explore civilizations from the anti-diluvian to our modernity.
Science
Using 2 teacher-made textbooks
A series of studies and explorations, including many hands-on and group experiments, that allow students to explore scientific inquiries related to: earth sciences, engineering and technology, health and nutrition, biology and physiology, the electromagnetic spectrum and energy machines.
Geography
An overview of the cartography of landscapes, waterways and constellations through the lens of both modern and historical purposes.
Art
Exploring and experimenting with techniques and applications in 2D and 3D arts and crafts.
